100% of the monies you donate go towards purchasing equipment, research and support services, and is not used towards administration costs. To prove your money really does help, here is a touching little story... Last Christmas it was discovered that Brian Ames's granddaughter Makiya couldn't hear. While her ears were perfect, the tiny hairs in the cochlea were missing. On September 6th at the Stollery Hospital in Edmonton, she became the youngest Bilateral Cohlear Implant recepient in Canada. She was just 13 months old. To do both ears at the same time required 5 hours of surgery. It was a delicate operation that required embedding permanent receivers in her skull. It was an absolute success! On October 9th she went to the University of Saskatchewan to have her "ears turned on". What an experience! Brian & his family watched behind one-way glass. The recognition in her eyes was so moving! Now at the age of 18 months she wears her ears all of the time. They look like complicated hearing aids, and she has never tried to pull them off. She is able to sign 35 different words and has just recently responded correctly to verbal commands without the corresponding sign. Thank goodness for modern medicine and to those of you who provide funds for these miracles to happen! "Thank you for supporting The Children's Miracle Network. After all, it's not just a donation...it's an investment in the future of our children." Ask about Give Life...Canada's Organ Donor awareness website. RE/MAX encourages and promotes the valuable gift of organ donation.
